Project:
Launchpad is an alinged solution with an integrated approach to help business run better. The solution merges existing systems into a single entry point to provide an efficient way for users to find tools and information in one place. The driving central idea behind that UX is a single interface that guides the user through the tools they need for successful task completion

The Challenge:
  • How do we easily surface tools that are needed so that users are connected to the applications they need to do their jobs?
  • How do we bring forward trending information and then seamlessly link out so its intuitive, easy to use and simple to understand?
  • How do we guide users through various tools which lack consistency and integration; every system looks and acts differently.

User Centered Analysis:
Research:
In person interviews were conducted for 60-90 minutes with 22 staff members across US Tax, Audit, Risk, Resource Management and Financial Services. Associates, Senior Associates, Managers, Senior Managers, Directors, Managing Directors and Partners participated.

  • “I get the sense that there are good resources available, but I have no idea where they are, or how to access them”. -Associate, Advisory, NYC
  • “So many clicks to find something and then even when you find it, it is not simple and user friendly”. –Senior Manager, Audit, Tice’s Corner

Key findings:
The major issues with the current state are that none of the systems talk to each other and there is too much disconnected information without organization or integration. Data is located in several different content repositories creating redundancies and extra work. Users in the field are getting exhausted with all the different tools and don’t understand what they need to do and in what order. Many of the tools use old technology with a complex interface that users don’t understand.

Solution Themes:
  • Convenience- Users wanted to see a seamless integration of tools that they know can meet their needs. Launchpad provides a way to see through various systems and siloed tools to greatly improve use and usability.
  • Actionable- Users want to take action and find the information they need, in one place, to help them perform. Users crave tools that can help them succeed, leveraging the resources and knowledge that is housed within the firm.
  • Relevance– Users were not satisfied with the organization of the Portal tools. Due to duplication of content and disjointed user experience, users were not sure where to go for the right information at the right time. They are looking for a more tailored experience.
  • Guided Approach– Walk users through each stage of the workflow so they understand where to go and what to do next. Provide a consistent approach so everyone can follow the same process resulting in an improvement to the quality of data.

The Result:
Launchpad provides client service professionals with a single access point for back office solutions. I eliminated over-design by simplifying the UI to emphasize the functionality required to meet the needs of real users. Currently the metric on the tile features the core data and the link goes back to the solution that supports the data. Users are automatically authenticated and can move seamlessly between applications without appearing to jump between solutions. Each section of Launchpad has the workflow built into the tiles for the user to easily navigate through each stage. Notifications and tasks are displayed to the user as actionable workflow items. Alerts are designed to display system events such as system failures or scheduled maintenance.

Future Roadmap:
As part of the KPMG Digital Transformation initiative, additional solutions are being developed to guide users through the work flow from the beginning of the engagement lifecycle. The tool will evolve to include personalization and pull metric reporting onto each launch tile, by application, providing a high level working dashboard. Areas for Client Relationship Management, HR and Client Service delivery will surface tiles based on user roles and the user will be able to customize the tiles. The UI will create a seamless transition between different platforms so that they appear to be integrated to the user. All the data in the back end is integrated and bi-directional so it will just need to be created once and then repurposed across solutions. This integration will ultimately eliminate 7 outdated tools.
